FAQ

How do I get attendince and how much does it cost?

It's invite only. Send me a message if you're interested.

Who is this app for?

The attendince app was developed for a school summer camp. But it works great for dance studios, after-school clubs, before and aftercare programs, office entrance logs, and anything else that just needs a simple log of who and when people have checked in and out.

Why can't I add more information about the students or have a registration form?

There are plenty of websites and apps that allow you to register students, collect information, fill out forms, etc. The goal of attendince is simply to track checkins and checkouts. Try Jotform for the other stuff.

Can I use attendince on multiple devices?

Yes. Just login on multiple devices.

How safe is my data?

Pretty safe. The attendince app is deployed on AWS with PythonAnywhere. Don't share your password with other people and I won't share mine and everything should be good. Also, your password is "hashed" in the database meaning that even if someone got a hold of it would look like this: w6Gp9@Q2s$LzxD1Y3bF7jNvKc*(9Bkel@89[0

Unless that is your actual password, in which case it would look different. Your actual password isn't saved anywhere. Use different passwords anyway as a good habit.

Every user's data is segmented so other users can't see your students and your data. If you don't trust me, remember you're storing only a name and a grade, not your students' SSNs.

Can I export all of my data for use in other programs?

There is an API for attendince, it just isn't in use currently as there hasn't been a request for it.

How does the technology work?

The attendince app's backend is built on Python and the Flask framework, along with an SQL database that stores all of your data. For most of the GET and POST requests to the server, the app utilizes JavaScript and the Fetch API so pages don't have to reload which is always a bummer experience. Styling is kept minimal and relies a lot on Bootstrap, particularly for the various modals. The minimalism is mostly because I don't have an eye for design, not because I'm not good at CSS. But that is also true.

What is the developer's programming and software engineering background?

I play piano for a living.
